1

Surface Preparation

Remove any loose or soft surface materials such as sand, dust, leaf matter, or debris including paint stains from the mortar surface. Mortar must be dry for at least 48 hours before the application of Instant Mortar Match for it to absorb properly.

Some mortar finishes are more porous than others.

Depending on the porosity of the mortar, the viscosity of Instant Mortar Match may be too thick. Use our thinning additive to thin the viscosity of your Instant Mortar Match, allowing for penetration on non-porous mortars.

Depending on the finish of the mortar (struck, brushed, raked), some finishes may have to have their surfaces altered in order to absorb. Take a light sand paper and scrub the surface of the mortar joints, allowing for dye absorption.

2

Application

Apply Instant Mortar Match with gentle brush strokes on the mortar joint surface. Take care to apply just enough at a time to avoid running or drips. Slow careful work is faster than fast work with lots of clean up. If clean up is required, a damp towel on hand is best.

Multiple coatings may be needed depending on how pronounced you desire.

This product should not be put on a structure that has been waterproofed within the last 10 years. Some non-conventional mortars simply do not absorb dye.

3

Keep Surface Protected for 24 Hours After Application

Subsequent treatments may be necessary depending on the chemistry of the mortar.

Instant Mortar Match is made for Mortar alone. We don't recommend the use of Instant Mortar Match on horizontal masonry such as Stairs, Patios, Floors as grout and concrete are normally used on these surfaces and not mortar so this product may not absorb or its life is greatly reduced.
